About Marta Comas

certificatesI have been practising massage for nearly 10 years now. Along with my practice I have always been studying new therapies and new techniques as I believe there should always be room for improvement.

Some of my relevant qualifications are: BSc (Hons) in Health Sciences (Homoeopathy), MTI Holistic Massage, LSSM Remedial Sports Massage, LSSM Myofascial/Connective Tissue Massage, ITEC Reflexology, ITEC Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Reiki, ITEC Indian Head Massage.

I love my job because it aims at making people's lifes a bit more relaxed, a bit more painless and a bit happier. And this is the main reason why I consider myself very fortunate of being a bodywork practitioner.

For the last few years I have also taught Holistic Massage, Sports Massage and Advanced Massage Techniques at different colleges in North London. Nowadays I run my own Deep Tissue and Remedial Massage workshops to train individual therapists and companies/spa practitioners.

WHAT MAKES MY TREATMENTS DIFFERENT

I don't use routines

Most of us have had the experience of receiving a massage and feel that the therapist wasn't really there. She or he was just performing robotic superficial moves while she/he might have been thinking of their shopping list. The way I like to work is by listening first to you and then to your body's needs and respond to them with my focused attention. My treatment will be tailored and specific to your needs and it is a pleasure for me to see how most of my clients realise and appreciate this (see 'testimonials')

I don't believe in pain
We commonly say in massage world that there are two types of pain. The good and the bad. The 'good' is actually not a pain because it feels good, it feels that it is releasing a discomfort or giving relief in any way. The 'bad' feels somehow threatening and unpleasant and often it is the result of working too fast and too deep. I encourage clients to stop me if they ever feel this type of pain. This is because the 'bad pain' forces the system into a contracting, recoiling and defensing mode that do not stimulate the healing process as much as the relaxation state.

I give you advice
Specific injuries or problems often progress faster if helped by some simple remedial exercises you can do between treatments. Some clients want me to give them few of these to improve their condition quickly. Others just prefer to come for treatments more regularly. I respect both decisions although I would generally encourage the first one.

I concentrate on quality
And not quantity. I have a limit of treatments I can do per day and I will never go over unless in exceptional circumstances.
This is because if I go over my limit I would feel tired, couldn't focus and would probably fall into a boring routine without any feeling or intent that would be a waste of our time and your money.

I use different body positions
Depending on wheather you would like a relaxing treatment or a more dynamic remedial one.
If you want us to concentrate in a particular injury or problem I would probably work on you while you lie face up, face down, side lying, sitting down and/or even standing up!
If what you want is just deep relaxation I would probably change your position as less as possible unless otherwise requested.

Every effort is made for you to have a pleasant and effective massage experience and this is the main reason why I run a succesful massage practice!
